VfB Stuttgart will have to put a lot of hard work in the upcoming months to save its place in German Bundesliga. In the last league match, VfB lost away clash with Fortuna Duesseldorf 0:3.
It was a bit strange game. If you look at the statistics, the VfB seems to be much better team. Players from Stuttgart team took 15 shots at Fortuna’s goal, kept the ball for 57% of the playing time, and also had 499 passes (from which almost 80% was accurate). Nevertheless, the hosts managed to grab a full set of points.
In 34. minute, the result of the match was opened by Karaman. But still one goal isn’t a big problem and it can be made up easily. But just after the break, the hosts scored their second goal. In 49. minute, the result of the match was increased to 2:0 by goal scored by Fink. At the moment, Fortuna was in a comfortable situation, and VfB faced a very difficult task to make up 2 goals of loss. As you could imagine, the mission failed. In 85. minute Raman determined the result of the match at 3:0, andVfB lost not only the goal but also the player: in the addeitional time of the game Nikolas Gonzales was removed from the pitch with the the red card.
The defeat at Duesseldorf complicated the situation of the team from Stuttgart. VfB still has 15 points, is on 16th place (last in the relegation zone), and loses 3 points to the place number 15 – which is occupied currently by FC Augsburg. During the next rounds of games, VfB will have to fight hard to get out of the relegation zone, but this team has the potential to do the job and reach its goal.
– Obviously we’re disappointed. We wanted to build on last week but we struggled to get into the game from the start. We didn’t contest the challenges in the same way as our opponents did and we helped them with the goals – that’s how the scoreline came about. Now we need to show a reaction as quickly as possible and play better against Leipzig on Saturday – the coach of VfB Stuttgart Markus Weinzierl commented after the game in Duesseldorf.
Fortuna Duesseldorf – VfB Stuttgart 3:0 (1:0).
